The Department of Dance faculty and students wish to express our sincere gratitude and best wishes to two of our retiring colleagues and mentors, Alcine Wiltz and Sylvia Druker.  Alcine has been professor of modern dance for 25 years and Chair of the Department for 21 of those 25 years.  Sylvia has taught all levels of ballet classes for majors and non-mjaors during her 31 years in the department.  Both will be retiring July 1, 2008.  Alcine and Sylvia trained legions of students who were fortunate enought to have been in their classes.  We wish them much good fortune as they begin this exciting phase of their life.  They will be missed!

Internships
The Kennedy Center is looking for 20 top notch interns for the Fall 2008 semester and the Winter/Spring 2009 semester.
Internships offer meaningful learning opportunities and on-the-job experiences to college junior/seniors, graduate students, and recent college graduates (within two years of graduation) who are interested in beginning careers in performing arts management and/or arts education.  Approximately 20 students are selected each semester to participate in a three to four month long, full-time (37.5-40 hours per week) internship (Fall, Septermber-December; Winter/Spring, January-May; Summer, June-August).  Internships may be available in advertising, development, education (local and national programs), National Symphony Orchestra, press relations, production, programming, technology, volunteer management, and finance.
Each intern, with their supervisor, develops a list of learning objectives and goals that they would like to accomplish as well as being assigned a project to be completed during their time at the Kennedy Center.  Each intern maintains a working portfolio, attends required intern events, and participates in mid-semester and final evaluations.
Interns receive a stipend of $225 per week to help defray housing and transportation costs.  College credit may be available.  Reduced work hours may also be available depending upon course work requirements during the semester.  Interns attend weekly sessions that are led by executives of the Kennedy Center and other major arts institutions in Washington, D.C.  Interns may attend performances, workshops, and classes spresented by the Center, free of charge (space available), during their internship.  Application deadline for the Fall semester is June 15th.  Please check out the website!
