To create global citizen artists who are: engaged, innovative, collaborative, curious, skilled, articulate, caring, resilient, and responsible.

Deeply engaged with the vibrant cultural life of the nation’s capital and of the state of Maryland, the Department of Dance works with the College of Arts and Humanities to create and disseminate works that build on the human experience, thought, expression, and creativity to advance human welfare in all its dimensions. We have a defining commitment to critical thinking, interdisciplinary work, and a collaborative environment and our faculty members strive to cultivate imagination and a context for transformation, in ourselves as well as for our students. Together, we develop the ability to understand and interpret the cultures of the world, past and present. Our graduates pursue their chosen careers with distinction and become independent-minded, responsible citizens.
