Alcine Wiltz is a
Professor and former Chair (1983-2004) of the Department of Dance at
the University of Maryland. He was Artist-in-Residence/Founder of
the Dance Division at Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville
(1968-1983). He continues to work with the St. Louis-based Mid America Dance Company, a
touring modern dance company which he co-founded and is now in its 29th
season. In 1997, Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville
presented him a Lifetime Achievement
Award in recognition for his contribution to the Art of Dance in
the St. Louis region. Wiltz's career has been a combination of
academic and professional endeavors with emphasis on dance performance
and choreography. He has worked extensively in concert modern
dance and musical theatre, having choreographed over fifty concert
dances and having directed/choreographed in excess of sixty musical
productions. His interests are collaborative projects and
heightened awareness of the body as a performing instrument. He
has a Master of Fine Arts degree in performance and choreography from
the University of Wisconsin and is a Certified Movement Analyst in
Laban Movement Analysis.
